FIM Seals 49 Engines in the MotoGP

Starting the Czech Republic Grand Prix, each rider in the MotoGP will have a limited number of engines to work with for the remainder of the 2009 season. The rule comes into effect as a consequence of article 2.3.6 of the FIM Road-Racing World Championship Technical Regulations for the MotoGP class.

As reported by the MotoGP official site, all riders have until now been selected a number of engines to be sealed for the remaining 8 rounds of 2009. No less than 49 engines have been sealed by the FIM officials so far (until August 13th), with a couple of Suzuki units yet to be assigned to either Loris Capirossi or Chris Vermeulen.

The measure to limit the number of engines in the MotoGP championship is part of the cost-cutting plan agreed by the series' manufacturer earlier this year. It is expected that the number of units for the 2010 season per rider to decrease considerably in 2010 and dramatically the next year.

Until then, let's see how the engines were sealed per rider for the remaining races of the ongoing season:

  • 3. Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda Team - 3
  • 4. Andrea Dovizioso, Repsol Honda Team - 3
  • 5. Colin Edwards, Monster Yamaha Tech 3 - 3
  • 7. Chris Vermeulen, Rizla Suzuki MotoGP - 2
  • 14. Randy de Puniet, LCR Honda MotoGP - 3
  • 15. Alex de Angelis, San Carlo Honda Gresini - 3
  • 24. Toni Elias, San Carlo Honda Gresini - 2
  • 27. Casey Stoner, Ducati Marlboro Team – 4 (although he will miss the upcoming 3 races)
  • 33. Marco Melandri, Hayate Racing Team - 3
  • 36. Mika Kallio, Pramac Racing - 3
  • 41. Gabor Talmacsi, Scot Racing Team MotoGP - 2
  • 46. Valentino Rossi, Fiat Yamaha Team - 3
  • 52. James Toseland, Monster Yamaha Tech 3 - 3
  • 65. Loris Capirossi, Rizla Suzuki MotoGP - 2
  • 69. Nicky Hayden, Ducati Marlboro Team - 4
