Fiat and Yamaha Unveil Abarth-Tuned FZ1

With Fiat already the main sponsor of Yamaha's MotoGP team, the two companies decided to continue the partnership with a new motorcycle especially designed to celebrate Abarth's centenary. Basically, the Yamaha FZ1 Abarth Assetto Corse is a customized version of the base FZ1, being equipped with a bunch of upgraded performance features plus eye-catching styling elements.

First of all, the performance section. According to Italiaspeed, FZ1 is the most powerful naked bike on the market, with an R1-inspired engine capable of developing a maximum power of 150 bhp. The braking system is now based on Brembo monobloc front brake calipers while the stock wheels were replaced by Marchisini models. In addition, the FZ1 Abarth Assetto Corse features a completely new Akrapovic exhaust system plus Ohlins suspension.

Styling elements include a red-and-white painting with gold wheels (manufacturers did not mention if the wheels are gold-covered or it's just the paint color) plus Abarth's scorpion logos placed on the tank.

Italiaspeed writes that Yamaha's FZ1 Abarth Assetto Corse is just a concept for the time being, with the only unit showcased at the “From 0 to 100” exhibition, a special event which celebrates 100 years since the birth of Karl Abarth.

“The fundamental concept of the exhibition is to demonstrate how the values that typified Karl Abarth’s life are present in the company today, guiding its choices one hundred years after his birth. For this reason, the exhibition traces the important stages of Abarth’s life and work, illustrating the brand’s most important moments, curious facts, life in the workshop, racing and successes seen with a thread that links the Scorpion’s past, present and future with its imaginative founder,” Italiaspeed wrote in the report.
