While we know that Fiat isn`t really planning to make any money out of their electrified 500, the 500e, that doesn`t mean they made a non-competitive car, just for the sake of making one.
In fact, it could even be called class-leading, with a combined efficiency rating of 116 MPGe, which is the average of the car’s 122 MPGe city rating, and its highway rating of 108 MPGe.

Range is not bad either, and the little Fiat EV has a claimed range (official Fiat-Chrysler number) of 87 miles, or just shy of 140 km. Even though range varies greatly, and the car will probably only reach the specified figure if the driver is experienced and has driven EVs before.

Just to give you an idea of where the 500e stands in its respective niche, the Smart ED manages 107 MPGe and has a range of 68 miles, while the Mitsubishi i-MiEV does 112 MPGe and has a claimed maximum range of 62 miles.

Still, there are other EVs which are slightly more efficient than the Fiat – the Honda Fit EV with its 118 MPGe rating, and the Scion iQ EV, which manages to achieve a combined rating of 122 MPGe.
