Ferrari to Bring Huge Upgrade in Turkey

Ferrari is one of the teams that will bring some huge modifications to their 2011-spec racer in the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix, as the Italians are trying to rethink their development strategy for the entire 2011 campaign due to their poor season start this year.

And since the race in Turkey marks the Great Circus' return to European soil, it may very well be regarded as Ferrari's second chance to life in 2011. Since they've been struggling with lack of downforce in the opening 3 races of the season, the 150 Italia will now debut new front and rear wings, as well as modified brake ducts.

In Istanbul we'll have new front and rear wings and modifications in the brakes,” confirmed Ferrari's chief designer Nikolas Tombazis in an interview with Italy's Corriere della Sera, while aware of the fact that the new upgrade will not propel Ferrari to race winning favorites.

Our car has a lot to recover: we've had wind tunnel problems and other problems in our methodology. We are improving on both fronts, but there is still some way to go. I think we'll be closer in Turkey, but I doubt we'll be where we need to be.”

The program is to bring improvements at every race. We are well aware these improvements will have to be courageous to close the gap.”

According to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, Ferrari has new updates in store for the races in Monaco and Barcelona, in the floor and exhaust compartments. In addition, Tombazis admitted that Ferrari are looking into developing a flexible front wing concept similar to Red Bull's sometime this season.

The FIA not only sets several rigidity limits, but it can also tighten the rules all of a sudden if it notices that there is flexibility by design. I'm not saying that Red Bull has cheated, we have been too prudent. I believe however that the FIA could have made these limits more severe. Since it is not doing that, it's up to us to jump on that bandwagon.
