Ferrari President Fancies Alonso-Vettel Lineup

Since Sebastian Vettel has made some obvious hints towards his passion for Ferrari in recent months, it was only natural for the Scuderia to piggyback on those suggestions. And the company's president Luca di Montezemolo admitted that he would fancy signing the reigning world champion in the future. In fact, he looked convinced that the German will some day race in an all-red racesuit.

Sebastian is fast, intelligent and young,” said the 63-year-old Italian, according to Cologne tabloid Express. “He will drive a red car sooner or later.

Vettel's deal with Red Bull Racing expires at the end of the 2011 season, but the Austrian team has an option to extend that commitment with an additional year. Curiously enough, Vettel's closure with Red Bull would coincide with Felipe Massa's last year of contract with Ferrari, so a Fernando Alonso-Sebastian Vettel lineup might just happen in the years to come.

Before his title-winning campaign in 2010, Vettel had told the media that driving for Ferrari is always something special and added “Why not go there in a few years?” And after he was crowned world champion, he also suggested that everyone's dream is to drive a Ferrari car at least once in his career.

Those comments were later echoed by Red Bull's motorsport consultant Helmut Marko, who admitted that “Seb wants to drive for Ferrari some day. We will make it as difficult a decision for him as possible.

According to the same publication, Vettel is not the only member of the Red Bull team Di Montezemolo wants at Ferrari, as the Italian boss reportedly made a huge offer to design guru Adrian Newey. However, the Brit turned it down.
