Elvis Presley Sells His Power Blue Mercedes 600

There's no doubt Elvis Presley was a rock phenomenon, so every tiny thing that belonged to him has an enormous value. The King of Rock and Roll had a special affinity for pink Cadillacs and Mercedes-Benz 600s, so Bonhams Auction decided to sell one of his Mercs at the Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey. Of course, the 600 Saloon Limousine, once driven by Elvis, was the main star of the venue, being sold for $127,575.

The interesting fact is that the official fan club of the rock star disagreed with the auction, emphasizing that Elvis Presley was an American star, so his cars should not be driven by somebody outside the United States.

Although not much is known about the bidder, some sources are indicating that a German bidder is the one to get the Mercedes 600 which was fully restored and driven for two years by Presley. Not as popular as his pink Cadillac, the Merc was considered by the fan club a national treasure that shouldn't be allowed to leave the States, according to a report by sportscarmarket.com.

The car is one of the few vehicles purchased by the King of Rock and Roll and registered straight by the singer. Elvis gave the car to James Leroy Robertson while the current owner purchased it in 2005 from Robertson Motors Memphis.

Besides this very rare collection car, those who participated to the auction could bid for a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Gullwing’ Coupe and a 1913 Rolls-Royce 45/59hp Silver Ghost Open Drive Limousine. Both cars attracted an impressive amount of interest, selling for $692,058 and $665,000, respectively.
