The first quarter of this year brought a record of registrations for electric cars in the United Kingdom.
In the first three months of this year, 10,496 electric vehicles were registered in the UK, meaning one every 13 minutes. The statistic can be put into perspective as such: 115 electric vehicles a day, every day, in the first three months of the current calendar year.
The Q1 2016 achievement marks the best sales result for electric cars in this country since the introduction of the Plug-In Car Grant, back in January 2011.
The total number of electric vehicles registered in Q1 2016 in the United Kingdom might not seem impressive when compared to conventional autos, but the Go Ultra Low initiative reminds everyone that the UK is Europe’s biggest major market for these cars, surpassed only by the Netherlands.
In the last 12 months, 28,715 new plug-in cars were registered in the United Kingdom, and the term in the press release does refer to electric vehicles, not to plug-in hybrids. If we take a look at Q1 2016, there is a 23% year-on-year increase in electric vehicle registrations, which comes after an entire record year.
Industry analysts estimate that 2016 will bring another record of electric vehicle registrations. Some expect that UK customers will register more new electric vehicles this year than they have in the last five years put together. Considering that 2015 brought a 386% year-on-year rise in the registration of EVs, this could be a groundbreaking year for the British car market.
Go Ultra Low is a campaign that aims to persuade motorists to buy electric vehicles through understanding the benefits brought by this category of cars.
Along with the consultation part of the purchase process, Goultralow.com also helps EV owners in finding publicly available charge points and provides information on owning and running an electric vehicle, no matter the maker or model.
