Electric Super Toyota Coming

In the past year or so, the automotive world saw the world of the electric vehicles get supercharged with the presentation of several electric supercars: Audi unveiled the e-tron (three of them actually), Mercedes Benz gave its SLS AMG an electric touch and even Citroen hinted to a possible production version of the Survolt.

The Japanese from Toyota, still the number one carmaker in the world, apparently wants to play with the big boys on the segment which is itself previewed by the Prius hybrid. According to Motor Trend, Toyota plans an all-electric super sports car with the help of, guess who, Tesla.

Details on the joint projects the two carmakers are already working on are pretty much known, but rumor of an electric Toyota supercar have until now been a bit scarce. It would be, however, a logical step forward in the EV sector, as even rival Nissan is said to be planning a sports car based on the Leaf technology.

According to the source, the electric super Toyota will be capable of developing over 500 horsepower and would do the famous 0 to 60 sprint in around 4 seconds. To entice even more, this new breed of Toyota is said to offer different driving modes, including sport and super sport.

Now, the sad part for Toyota is that by the time their supercar gets here, the public will be pretty much energized to the max by the other electric wonders. Toyota's super EV won't become reality sooner than 2015, except perhaps a scenario where a Toyota badge would be stuck on a Tesla Model S or something.
