Ducati bikes have always been impossible to mistake, as their design was easily recognized even by people who were not exactly motorcycle industry experts. From the 70’s machines to the new 1190 Panigale, all the Ducati bikes had that unique je ne sais quoi, which made hands itch and hearts beat faster. Here’s a new, daring concept from Steven Galpin, the Ducati VR|46.
Obviously, there is a mysterious allure to the era when Ducati had Valentino Rossi aboard the MotoGP bike, even though those years have been anything but fruitful. Still, this doesn’t mean that road bikes from Borgo Panigale are not enjoying their fair share of glory. Galpin’s concept is clearly based on the 1199 Panigale, and takes things well into the future.

With simple and more fluid lines, Galpin’s take on the flagship superbike is clearly a “less is more”-type of approach. The new design of the side panels somehow reminds me of the Honda VFR1200F, but maybe it’s just me. The all-new single-sided swingarm is supposed to also integrate the exhaust, and it would be really interesting to find out more about the technical solutions for such a unit.

It looks like Galpin is thinking about a bike which could actually be manufactured, as himself declares. “The motorcycle is designed to be launched in 2018. From my research collected I have found out that the average time between the launch of a new Ducati motorcycle is six years. This allows for development time making the motorcycle as perfect as possible. I have also aimed my motorcycle at 2018 because I believe this is when Valentino Rossi’s career may end making the launch of this motorcycle very poignant,” Galpin tells Coroflot.
