Throughout the three days of lapping the Spanish circuit, the duo ran several setups of the new Desmosedici GP11 bike and focused on solutions for its anti-wheelie and traction control systems. However, these were only some preliminary tests before the first MotoGP group session kicks off on February 1st, at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
While Guareschi stayed on the track until approximately 4 PM, riding an overall 61 laps and focusing on front-end feel and turn-in, Battaini continued testing until late in the afternoon and completed approximately 90 laps.
Although happy with the GP11's debut on track, technical chief Filippo Preziosi insisted the real potential of the bike will be assessed in Sepang, when both Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will get to ride it for 3 days running.
“We were lucky,” he said “because the weather conditions enabled us to test for all three days of the session. “(...) We’re all satisfied with the work carried out, even though we’re aware that we’re dealing with technical solutions that were tried on a different track and in different conditions compared to those of Sepang.”
“Only when Valentino and Nicky have had their turn to try and evaluate those solutions will we be able to have a more certain confirmation and to understand if we’ve taken a step forward – and if so, how big of a step,” added the Ducati technical.
In all, the Ducati Desmosedici GP11 completed 386 laps at Jerez, through 3 days of testing.
