Ducati 1299 Panigale KH9 Shows Its Artsy Side in Roland Sands' Hands

Here's Roland Sands Designs' KH9 Ducati 1299 Panigale, a piece of Italian high-tech engineering infused with the most radical artistic DNA the modern American art scene can provide. Blunt and assertive, this custom 1299 Panigale is a "take it or leave it" matter and a piece of contemporary art per se.

Jeff Koons is, undoubtedly, one of the most controversial living artists, and regardless of whether you think that he's a visionary or the master of kitsch, his position in the art scene is impossible to ignore. One of Koons' BMW "art cars" served as an inspiration for the KH9 Ducati 1299 Panigale Roland Sands manufactured recently.

The painting was done by the renowned Chris Wood of Airtrix fame, and is a derivative of the design Roland Sands created for one of the cars belonging to the owner of the bike, himself a drag racer. Clearly, it's not the finish you'd expect when preparing to meet a custom Panigale, but it makes the bike look spectacular.

A Panigale in a brushed livery is not one of the things we run into every day, but this one looks awesome. The entire bodywork and the fuel tank received this satin gloss and brushed satin metal treatment, complemented by a coat of clear varnish and in-your-face color accents. The billet parts and triple clamps are also polished.

The pinstripes make it look a bit retro, if you ask us, but not in a bad way. The wheels are stock forged Marchesini units, and the rear one got "Ride Fast Take Chances" lettering by Tom (The Undertaker) Clark in matching colors.

RSD went for a different exhaust and chose the titanium Akrapovic unit that equips the Panigale Superleggera. CRG carbon fiber levers replaced the stock ones, and Bonamici rearsets were also installed.

The tank also received a new billet gas cap from TWM and Ducati mirror block off plates. An extensive array of carbon fiber body parts was also used, and the list includes the sprocket cover, swingarm and chain guards, rear brake line guard and shock guard, the rear exhaust heatshield, countershaft sprocket cover, brake and clutch reservoir mounts, rear fender trim, and the engine bulkhead covers.

The RSD KH9 Ducati 1299 Panigale is obviously not your everyday custom superbike, but we loved it.
