DTM Teaming with NASCAR to Establish US Series from 2013

One of the racing series with the greatest potential is the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters), which is on its way of going global in the future, as autosport reports.

The DTM has created an internationalization plan earlier this year. The series’ promoter, ITR said that it is planing to expand to the U.S. and Asia in the future.

DTM has teamed up with NASCAR to create an American series, which is scheduled to debut in 2013. This will include the new generation of DTM cars that will come to the world next year.

The future US series will include 12 races. Six of these will run alongside Grand-Am events, while the other six will be NASCAR-affiliated events. The American championship will be a standalone one, rather that become a class for another series.

As for the Japanese expansion, the ITR boss Hans Werner Aufrecht told the aforementioned source that the Japanese motorsport federation has made efforts to reach an agreement to switch the king class of the Super GT championship, the GT500, to DTM technical regulations starting from 2013.

"We are finalising an agreement with the Japanese at the moment," the executive was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. "I believe this will be completed in November and then we are together. If it happens, the Japanese federation will accept the regulations from Germany, so that in the future the GT500 cars will race with the same regulations as here in Europe."

The DTM is set to become more spectacular starting from next year as BMW will make its comeback to the series, using the M3 as its weapon of choice.
