Dow Kokam to Supply Motiv Power and ZeroTruck

In the expanding new industry of large-format battery systems, every single contract might mean the difference between success and a shameful Chapter 11 filing. On the other hand, with more and more auto makers turning to hybrid and electric vehicles, being able to secure a good supply of lithium-ion batteries is at the top of the strategy for the big players on the market.

Dow Kokam, one of the most important players on the battery market, announced this week, during the Work Truck Show, the signing of two supply contracts with Motiv Power Systems and ZeroTruck.

The batteries to be supplied by Kokam will be used by the two in the medium-duty trucks which will be launched in the years to come.

"Beyond their environmental benefits, PHEV and EV vehicles offer significant advantages to commercial vehicle and fleet operators in terms of cost, mission fulfillment, reliability and longevity,” said Chuck Reardon, vice president of Dow Kokam.

“Dow Kokam's high-performance advanced battery technology enables vehicle converters to unlock these advantages for fleet owners. We are excited by the opportunities that Motiv and ZeroTruck are providing to fleet owners to update their fleets and realize the long-term benefits of electrification."

Dow Kokam, a joint venture between Dow Chemical Company, TK Advanced Battery and Groupe Industriel Marcel Dassault, began last June the build on its 800,000 square-foot, large-format battery manufacturing facility in Midland, Michigan.

When fully operational, the Midland plant will produce 1.2 billion watt hours of large-format lithium-ion batteries for 60,000 electric or hybrid batteries each year.
