Dongfeng Nissan Reaches 2M Production Milestone

The local alliance Japanese manufacturer Nissan has with the Chinese from Dongfeng reached a major milestone this week, as it announced the production of its second millionth vehicle since its inception {}seven years ago.

The anniversary vehicle was a Nissan Teana, the successor of the car introduced at the 2008 Beijing Motorshow. The car was accompanied on its road from the production line to the factory grounds by media, government and company officials.

"I would like to thank each of the two million Dongfeng Nissan customers who trust us," said Fumiaki Matsumoto, managing director of Dongfeng Nissan.

"Our efforts over the past seven years have not just achieved sales volume. Our efforts encompass a full lineup of products, top-level quality globally, and a full line of services at dealership throughout China."

When production began at the Nissan Dongfeng plant in 2003, the output was around 39,000 cars. Now, seven years later, the plant operated by the two manufacturers has an annual output of some 600,000 vehicles.

Dongfeng and Nissan manufacture in China several models, including the Tiida, Sylphy, Genis, Livina series, Teana, Qashqai and X-Trail. Earlier this year, the newest addition to the Nissan lineup was the March, which became part of the production process this summer.

Yesterday, the joint venture announced the creation of a new brand, the Venucia, a brand which will begin being sold locally in 2012. Also in 2012, the new plant operated by the two carmakers in Huadu, Guangzhou, will become operational.

"In the future, we aim to sell more than one million vehicles annually and the new brand will play an important role by offering practical models with class-leading quality," added Matsumoto.
