DeLorean Biopic by David Permut Coming Soon

John Zachary DeLorean is probably one of the most controversial personalities in the entire auto industry since Karl Benz invented the automobile. And now his life story will be turned into a biopic by Hollywood producers David Permut and Steve Lee Jones, Variety (via Autoblog) reported.

In fact, works on the movie have started in since late 1997 when Jones secured rights from DeLorean's lawyer, Mayer Morganroth. The biopic will present DeLorean's life story starting with his work at Packard. His success at General Motors and his contribution to the development of the Pontiac GTO muscle car, the Pontiac Firebird & the DeLorean DMC-12 sports car, which was later featured in the movie "Back to the Future", are also presented in the biopic.

In addition, the movie  also contains spicy details, such as his leaving from General Motors to form his own company, the De Lorean Motor Company (DMC) and the scandal of drug trafficking. In 1982, DeLorean was arrested on charges of drug trafficking and it is believed that he had resorted to such illegal deeds in order to raise funds for his struggling company, which was declared bankrupt the same year. However, DeLorean managed to prove his innocence, showing that his alleged involvement was a result of entrapment by federal agents.

So far it is not clear whether the biopic will contain details about his personal life as well, meaning about the four marriages he had. Equally, we have no information about the actor who will play DeLorean in the movie and about a possible date of release.

Still, we can't wait to watch it as DeLorean has certainly been a man to remember for the entire auto industry. John Zachary DeLorean died on March 19, 2005, leaving behind a life story worth being told to the next generations.
