Daimler Celebrates, Employees Get More Dough

It pays (and it pays really well) to be an employee in the automotive industry in this era of long and prosperous life. Whereas in 2009, analysts were predicting very hard times ahead for the people working in the industry, now the outlook has turned in the opposite direction.

In the auto industry, perhaps more than in other sectors of the economy, being good at your job attracts more cash each month, or week, depending on the continent you work on. And this year, being good at Daimler will mean a lot more money for you.

As it happens each year, the Germans are rewarding their workforce for the hard labor of the past 12 months. In 2011, the reward also comes for Daimler employees as some type of happy birthday wish because, as you all know, Mercedes Benz, the flagship brand of the group is turning 125 on January 29.

So, with that being said, Daimler is letting its workforce know that at the end of April, each of them would receive 3,150 euros ($4,320), as a performance bonus. An extra up to 1,000 euros (depending on the length of time with the company) will be given each employee as an anniversary bonus.

The performance participation bonus will not only go to the people who are paid according to collective bargaining agreements, but, for the first time, to apprentices, trainees, university students on dual courses and doctoral students.

“The invention of Daimler and Benz has changed the world for the better – and it will continue to do so. As the inventor of the automobile, we will be at the forefront of shaping future mobility: with inspiring products, strong brands, green technologies and innovations,”
said Dieter Zetsche, Daimler chairman of the board.

“Daimler’s success depends above all on its employees, who have the motivation and ability to deliver top performance every day. This special bonus is intended as recognition of that outstanding commitment – not least for the efforts and achievements of the recent past.”
