The Japan Mobility Show, Tokyo's rebranded automotive and mobility show, returns this weekend, and all major Japanese carmakers are ready to showcase their innovative designs. Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota, has prepared an impressive fleet of visionary vehicles showcasing the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Daihatsu is a name that might not ring too many bells with car lovers in the US and Europe, as the company pulled out of those markets many years ago, but the automaker is renowned locally for its compact, fun, and practical vehicles, including kei car models, kei trucks, and kei vans.

Daihatsu's exhibit at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 is centered on the theme of "Staying Close to Our Customers and Enriching Their Lives," with the company bringing a fleet of 11 cars at the auto event, including five concept cars and six historical vehicles.

With the Daihatsu Me:Mo, Uniform Truck, Uniform Cargo, Daihatsu Osanpo, and Vision Copen concepts, the company reinforces its commitment to aligning its offering with the ever-evolving needs of its customers. Each of the new car concepts presented by Daihatsu embodies the brand's vision for the future of mobility, a future centered around people and their societal needs, in which vehicles are not just transportation means but integral parts of our lives.

The Me:Mo is a futuristic compact vehicle envisioned as a personal mobility solution underpinned by the idea of "Redefining the relationship between cars and people." It features a modular design in order to adapt to people's different lifestyles and needs, with users able to customize its interior layout and functionality. Moreover, its versatility is enhanced by advanced connectivity and autonomous driving technologies.

For the urban logistics sector, Daihatsu has envisioned two compact electric utility vehicles called the Uniform Truck and Uniform Cargo. While the former is a delivery vehicle, the latter is a cargo vehicle and features a higher roof, but both are designed to easily navigate narrow streets and congested areas.

The diverse fleet of concepts continues with the Daihatsu Osanpo, a high-riding, compact electric SUV whose name comes from the Japanese word for "walk" or "stroll." And it's quite a fitting name for the concept, as the convertible car is designed to be used for leisure and recreational activities. According to the company, it aims to offer "relaxed enjoyment, with the overwhelming quietness that is the characteristic of BEVs and the openness provided by the slightly higher vehicle height, as if you're taking a walk through nature."

Finally, the Vision Copen represents Daihatsu's vision for the future of its sporty roadster. Unlike the company's current offering, a two-door convertible kei car that was introduced in 2002, the Vision Copen concept is closer in size to a 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata, measuring 151 inches in length. It has a lightweight, aerodynamic body and is powered by a 1.3-liter engine. Just like the Mazda, the concept sportscar adopts a rear-wheel drive layout.

Inside, the Vision Copen features a digital instrument cluster, a small infotainment, and capacitive-touch buttons.

Designed with people's diverse needs in mind, all these concept cars from Daihatsu prove the carmaker's understanding of the changing urban landscape and its commitment to staying close to customers' lives.
