Tire manufacturer Continental was named tire manufacturer of the year by the National Tire Distributors Association (NTDA) at the 2009 edition of the Tire and Fast Fit Awards (TAFF). The manufacturer went home with two prizes in all, the other one, the Industry Advertising campaign award, being won for the Great Days Out campaign.
"Continental was recognized by voters as Manufacturer of the Year for a number of reasons. From the latest generation of truck tires with industry leading fuel saving technology and innovative products such as the ContiSeal, the puncture resistant car tyre and the revolutionary CSEasy, a solid industrial tyre that can be fitted without a mounting press, Continental has a well earned reputation as a leader in tyre development," the tire manufacturer said in a release.
The Great Days Out campaign, rolled out in March 2009, is not only good enough to receive the advertising campaign awards; it works, too. Since its implementation, Continental says it has reached 40 percent of adults with the ads, while 14 million page impressions were delivered via the Internet. Unfortunately, Continental didn't translate these numbers into units sold...
“We are delighted that our work and efforts have been recognized by the industry. I am particularly proud of my team who work hard to push standards forward and make us the leading brand in the industry,” David Smith, Comntinental managing director added.
On the other side, the tire manufacturer of the year is still engaged in a control battle with Schaeffler. The two manufacturers will merge sometimes in the future, according to the provision of the "Project Fairplay."
