A 12-year-old kid played too much Grand Theft Auto and decided to do a reenactment, so he stole a school bus.
Fortunately, we can report this story happily, as nobody was injured in the whole “adventure.” It all happened in the city of Bangor, Maine, USA. The local police department was kind enough to share the news of the event through Facebook in a most humorous note.
The unnamed 12-year-old child was spotted at the wheel of a school bus, and a young man named John W. St. Germain III decided it was time to step in. John W. was driving with his girlfriend when they noticed that a bus driver looked suspiciously young.
The pair then called the local police department and provided a description of the bus. As the Bangor Police reported (you can read their comments below), it was easy to find a big, blue, school bus with a 12-year-old at the wheel.
However, before the police arrived, John W. found a way to step in safely. While he and his girlfriend were filming the bus as they were reporting it to the police, they noticed the bus stop.
A quick and brave moment later, John W. St. Germain III managed to safely board the stopped bus and remove the little thief from the wheel. He then secured the vehicle and waited for the law enforcement officers to arrive. John's good deed was praised by the police, who awarded him with a “Bangor Police Department Challenge Coin.”
The “press release” of this story features the entire event presented in a more humorous note, written by the police's communication department. And it made us laugh out loud, which does not often happen in today's world.
The Facebook post published by Bangor Police Department also underlines an unfortunate limitation of the most popular social network in the world - you cannot post a picture and a video in the same “status update.” This means even they had to resort to posting a photo in the comments of their video, which shows Mr. John W. St. Germain III receiving an award for his brave actions. You can see the local hero in the photo gallery.
