Who doesn’t love to see U.S automotive legends reborn? We’re referring especially to pony & muscle cars here.
We can’t be anything less than extra-pleased with the fact that the last few years have brought us new incarnations of the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger (let’s not mention the Charger here) and Chevy Camaro. But the joy was never complete, as the Pontiac Firebird has not been brought back from the dead. When GM created the Camaro, the car enthusiasts were double excited, as they were expecting the model’s platform to also serve as a base for a modern-day Firebird. But the Pontiac brand was killed, so there was no chance of that.
However, things have now changed, thanks to Classic Design Concepts, which has created a modern incarnation of the Pontiac Firebird, with the vehicle being based on the current Chevy Camaro. The car was created as a one-off but is now being offered to the public.
The vehicle is powered by a supercharged 6.2 liter V8 unit that delivers 599 hp to the rear wheels (these use 295/40 R20 tires). The engine uses a special cold air induction system and a cat-back performance dual exhaust system. All that power should be handled pretty well, as the vehicle has been fitted with an Eibach suspension (lowering springs and anti-sway bars).
The unit can be mated to an automatic gearbox or to a six speed manual transmission, with the latter using a Hurst short throw shifter system. The FireBreather theme is also continued in the interior, with multiple elements using special features, such as custom logos or stitching.
The price for all this retro drama? $60,000. You can see the complete list of goodies received for this money here.
