The first photos of a new Citroen concept car have leaked out ahead of its official debut, which was scheduled to happen on April 8th, two days from now. The model is called simply Aircross, a name that has already been used in the past on an SUV based on the Mitsubishi ASX. By the look of things, this concept previews its successor, as the deal with the Japanese automaker is about to run its course.
The Citroen Aircross is part of a new corporate strategy imposed by PSA bosses. Citroen is to become a budget brand while the DS models will be sold separately as premium alternatives to Audis. That's why the Aircross bears more than a passing resemblance to the C4 Cactus, a tiny crossover that competes with the Renault Captur.

We're still not entirely sold on the deformable protective panels or the squinting headlights, but the overall look is a little better than on the C4 Cactus. This new concept is also distinctive through its vented hood and the weird way in which the rear doors are designed.

Using the same design language on a second crossover is a bit like saying "BMW has Angel Eyes, Volvo has the shoulder lines, and we have the ugly Cactus look. Deal with it!"

Very little is known about the concept at this point, except for the fact that it will have lots of cameras. The Facebook post "Have you ever seen a camera on four wheels?" suggests the Airstream is filled with cameras, but exactly what they do remains a mystery. We'll know more two days from now, so stay tuned.
