Chinese secures BCN deal

Dutch-based Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung secured the last GP2 seat available. The 2006 German Formula 3 champion has been signed by Spanish outfit BCN Competición for the 2007 season.

Team manager Enrique Scalabroni commented: "I think for BCN Competición it is important to have a very talented young driver such as Ho-Pin Tung, who has shown his driving capacity in the German F3 series and even if he arrives in GP2 with no previous experience in the category, I think he will show in a short time what he is capable of".

"I am very happy to have the opportunity to compete with BCN Competición in GP2", said 26-year old Tung. "I am grateful to my private sponsors, who supported this huge step forward in my career. To get to Formula 1, as every young driver knows, GP2 is the best launching series. And it is my ambition as long as I am a racing driver to become the first ever Chinese Formula 1 driver."

Tung already drove an F1 car four years ago, when he was awarded with a test drive with the Williams-BMW team, following his dominant season in Formula BMW Asia. More recently, Tung joined Team China in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, offering the Chinese team its first podium finish in Eastern Creek, Australia.
