GeigerCars, which is known for its extreme gas-guzzler tuning projects, has decided to present an eco modification, offering a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) system for the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid.

The Tahoe Hybrid uses an aluminum 6.0 liter V8 engine that develops 332 hp and 498 Nm of torque (367 lb-ft), which features an automatic cylinder deactivation system that temporally switches off one bank of cylinders to save fuel when power is not needed.

The powerplant is used in conjunction with an electric drive including a kinetic energy regeneration system and electric-only starting. The SUV offers a city fuel consumption of 10.7 liters per 100 km (22 mpg), while for the highway driving mode it returns a fuel consumption of 11.2 liters per 100 km (21 mpg).

The hybrid powertrain allows the full-size SUV to offer two driving modes. The first one allows the driver to use any combination between electric and internal combustion power (the vehicle can operate in electric-only mode), being used for low speeds. The second one only uses the V8 and is suitable for high speed driving. The unit is mated to a four speed automatic transmission that includes an overdrive function.

The LPG system installed by GeigerCars has a 109 liters tank, significantly improving the vehicle’s autonomy, while increasing its “green” abilities. The system also offers a financial advantage, as LPG is up to 50 percent cheaper than gasoline.

The eco conversion costs EUR 4,000 (this includes installation - performed in Munich, Germany), bringing the vehicle’s total retail price to EUR 60,000.

"With its Chevrolet Tahoe hybrid version, General Motors now offers the perfect synergy of space, eight-cylinder-power and economy. But why should we be content with this if we can get even more economic and environmentally compatible? GeigerCars now offers the Tahoe Hybrid even with an LPG system," stated the press release.
