Chandhok Will Inaugurate Korean GP Track for Red Bull Racing

Karun Chandhok may have lost his seat – at least temporarily – within the Hispania Racing F1 Team this season, but the Indian driver will have the privilege of becoming the first F1 racer to do a full lap at the wheel of an F1 car on the soon-to-be-completed race track in Korea.

As you all know, Korea has become a part of the Formula One schedule starting this season, despite the fact that several fears were expressed in the media about the organizers' capability to end the construction of the new circuit. Apparently, the building of the new Korean venue was supposed to be completed later this month, but some issues have caused some delays in the initial schedule.

Nevertheless, the track will be ready by September 4, when Chandhok will lap the circuit in a Red Bull machine. The Austrian team has all of its drivers booked for the aforementioned date, so they asked Chandhok, one of their former members of the Young Drivers programme, to inaugurate the Korean circuit.

Red Bull and I know each other from my days on the junior programme. The team's regular drivers weren't available due to other commitments, so I was happy to fill in,” confirmed Chandhok.

It'll be a real honour to be one of the first people to drive around the new Korean circuit. The layout looks quite good fun on paper and I look forward to driving a winning team's car there next weekend,” added the Indian driver.

Chandhok hasn't raced in the 2010 Formula One since the German Grand Prix, when he was replaced by former reserve driver Sakon Yamamoto. Although it was initially believed he would come up with some sponsorship money to win his seat back from the Japanese during the summer break, it was recently confirmed Yamamoto will continue to drive alongside Bruno Senna for the Belgian GP also.
