The first two Cadillac models to adopt the revised naming scheme under the leadership of Johan de Nysschen have been priced in Europe. In the biggest market for new cars in the Old Continent, the order books for the CT6 and XT5 open on September 5.
Let’s start with the 2017 Cadillac CT6. Marketed as a rival for the German establishment in the full-size segment, the CT6 starts from €73,500 for the Luxury trim level. The top-of-the-range Platinum, on the other hand, costs €94,500. “The CT6 is nothing less than an entirely new approach that only Cadillac can offer,” said Johan de Nysschen, the man behind Cadillac's rebirth.
In Europe, the powertrain and drivetrain combo comes in the form of a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 417 hp (307 kW) and 555 Nm (409 lb-ft) of torque plus all-wheel-drive. In terms of dimensions, the CT6 is almost on par with the short wheelbase BMW 7 Series, but not quite. As for driving credentials, the all-new CT6 prides itself on “segment-best ride, handling, and isolation qualities.” I’m not so sure about the handling, to be honest, not sure at all.
Moving on to the 2017 Cadillac XT5, European pricing for the mid-size luxury SUV starts at €48,800 for the Luxury. Two more grades are available: Premium (€56,800) and Platinum (€66,800). Continuous Damping Control is an optional extra on the entry-level Premium. All-wheel-drive, an 8-speed automatic, wireless phone charging, and OnStar 4G connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot all come as standard.
On the technical front, the XT5 is exclusively available with the 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 that’s also available on the mid-range Chevrolet Camaro. In this tune, the engine produces 314 horsepower (231 kW) and 368 Nm (271 lb-ft) of torque. “The all-new XT5 not only enters the most popular segment in the worldwide premium auto market, it is the first of four new crossovers from Cadillac,” commented de Nysschen.
