Cadillac ATS to Be Built at Grand River

A small, compact Cadillac is getting ready to take its place in the lineup, as it gears up for production. Even if there is still over a year left before the model is expected to be released onto the market, it appears things begin to fall into place.

We are talking about the model referred to as the ATS and the plans American manufacturer Cadillac has to produce the model at the Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing. According to DetNews, this is the place where the new line of Cadillacs will be born.

To get the plant ready for production, GM is likely to announce a $190 million investment and the subsequent creation of no less than 600 jobs.

"This is a huge boost to our manufacturing sector, that they have chosen to build a new small Cadillac here, and it's clearly great for Lansing. It's great for General Motors and it's great for Michigan," US Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, told DetNews.

The details regarding the ATS are not yet known, but most expect the Cadillac to spawn not only one model, but also its derivatives, a coupe and a convertible. The model might be fitted with the engines used for the Buick Regal and Regal GS, the 2.4l naturally-aspirated and the 2.0l turbocharged.

The main targets of the new line are the Infiniti G37, the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes C-Klasse. The new model is expected to be similar in size with the BLS, a model which it will replace when it is launched.
