Buy a Hummer and Get a Free Shotgun

Last week, General Motors announced that it will keep Hummer on life support until May 1. If the carmaker doesn’t reach an agreement with a partner for Hummer’s takeover by then, the brand will be killed. But it looks like the rugged marque isn’t willing to go down without a fight, literally: Lynch Hummer, the brand’s largest U.S. Hummer dealer announced that it is offering a Browning Citori White Lightning Shotgun for every sold unit.

"There is now a real reason to believe that the current inventory on hand at dealers may be the last of the new Hummers, we wanted to send them off with something memorable," says Hummer dealer Jim Lynch. "Browning and Hummer are prestigious brands and American Icons - bringing them together is a natural fit."

The initiative doesn’t come as a surprise, as Lynch Hummer also became a gun dealer last summer, adding weapons to the Hummers in its upscale suburban St. Louis showroom.

"Hummer inventory got so low we had to add another product to make up for lost sales. The guns have been a huge hit with our Hummer customers and now we are taking the 'Guns and Hummers' concept one step further," said Lynch.

"My hope is that someone will come in and rescue the brand. The right buyer with the right vision could do very well. It will be a real shame if the brand doesn't survive." added Lynch, who has been a Hummer dealer since 1994.

We believe that the new “tie-up” will be highly successful for two reasons. First of all, because the Browning Citori White Lightning is worth $2000 (consider that some Chinese Hummer dealers recently increased the price of their cars, as less units are available). The second argument is no less important: Lynch Hummer is the dealer with the highest customer satisfaction in the nation, so it shouldn’t be to difficult for the company to convince buyers to buy a Hummer and a gun to defend the brand from GM.

If we were in GM’s position we’d really avoid shutting down Hummer...
