Button: Testing Ban Helps Brawn

Jenson Button admitted he is happy the entire diffuser controversy has been solved ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend. While enjoying his winning streak in the championship, the British driver is quite aware his momentum will fade away through the mid-season, as the big teams will more than likely catch up with Brawn GP in terms of car's performance.

“It was just a nice feeling to put it behind us and now we can concentrate on doing our proper job. In a way it was expected. You're obviously a bit worried, because you never know what might happen, but it wasn't like a shock when I found out,” said Button.

“I'm sure people will get their acts together very quickly. We've got a head start having done a very good job over the winter, we've obviously done a good job in many areas with our car – not just the diffuser – and I think it's going to take people a little bit of time to catch up. They know where they need to improve, though, so they will catch us up, or try to, and it won't be long, for sure.”

However, the Brit reckoned that the in-season testing ban imposed by the FIA for 2009 will help his team through the upcoming months, as the other outfits will be forced to conduct all their diffuser-related development work away from the track. Therefore, the chances of them getting things ready any time soon are close to zero.

“The lack of testing is a good thing for us because we have an advantage and teams can no longer just throw stuff on the car, even if it doesn't look good in the wind tunnel, to see how it performs on the track. Even so, I think people's wind tunnels are very good and I think we'll see a few teams getting close to us and becoming more competitive,” added the Brawn GP driver.

Renault will reportedly have their revised R29 – new diffuser included – ready by the Spanish Grand Prix, while Red Bull Racing are hoping to have a functional double-decker diffuser finalized by the Monaco race. Ferrari, McLaren and BMW have also started focusing immediately on the new parts.
