Briatore Believes Red Bull Are Uncatchable

Red Bull disclosed a dominant pace in the season opening Australian Grand Prix, beating the closest competition by 8 tenths of a second in qualifying and finishing the race more than 22 seconds ahead of nearest competitor in the race.

And if some would usually tackle this kind of success with some degree of modesty, the very Red Bull organization's team principal Christian Horner was bullish on the RB7's chances of outpacing the competition from beginning to end this campaign. And his view is no different from Flavio Briatore's, the man who used to win some titles as a team manager back in the days.

You don't recover all those tenths in two months,” argued Briatore in a recent interview with Italy's La Politica, hinting that Red Bull will unlikely be touched at least until the F1 caravan moves to Europe, in early May.

Half a second in formula one is huge,” he added. “Red Bull are very well financed so I see it hard for them (the others) to play catch-up.”

Red Bull's domination in Australia is as impressive at it was disclosed without using the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), which reportedly adds some decent mph in straight line this season, while also helping a lot at the start. Under the circumstances, some voices in the paddock have already showed their distrust of getting to catch the Austrian team anytime soon.

Nico Rosberg was one of them, as he bluntly answered “No” when asked if he thinks anybody can catch Red Bull in the near future.

From the whole pack, it's still McLaren and Ferrari who maintain their optimism for the races to come, especially since the former have managed to recover more than a second per lap with their new aerodynamic package for the Aussie race last weekend. Ferrari have also discovered the issues that hampered their performances in Melbourne and will likely come back stronger in Malaysia. Whether it will be enough to challenge the Red Bulls, we'll find out in less than 2 weeks time.
