Bonhams Records Best Aston Martin Auction Yet

One of the preferred destinations for Bonhams when it comes to organizing its famous car auctions, the Aston Martin Works Service entered the history books this weekend, as the auction house managed to set up one of its biggest sales yet.

Taking place on May 21, the auction saw no less than 344 cars and related items leaving the place with new owners. The entire auction, just to give you an idea of the scale of Saturday's event, comprised a total of 345 lots.

The high-profile stars of the event were the two DB4 Convertibles hand crafted at Aston Martin in 1963 in polar opposite form. The first, a DB4 convertible with a vantage engine left the block for 507,500 pounds, whilst the second, a dry-stored DB4 convertible, unused for 30 years, sold for 309,500 pounds.

A 2009 Aston Martin Rapide, the very one used by the company's executive Ulrich Bez was also sold (for an undisclosed sum, which would go to support the relief efforts in Japan following the March 11 disaster).

Other important items that have been sold by Bonhams include a 1965 DB5 Vantage Shooting Brake (430,500 pounds), a 1967 DBS Vantage restored by Works Service to the specification of the car used in James Bond’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (106,000 pounds) and a 1986 V8 Volante (172,000 pounds).

“This year’s Aston Martin auction, the twelfth in succession, has taken things to a new level. More than 2,000 people and numerous telephone bidders from around the world joined us at our workshops at Newport Pagnell on Saturday to take part in what has become such an important part of the Aston Martin calendar,” said Kingsley Riding-Felce,director of Aston Martin Works Service and Parts Operations.
