Though the information is still a rumor in the absence of official confirmations, it looks like 2014 will be the last year the French venue of Magny-Cours hosts a round of the FIM Endurance World Championship, namely the 24-Hour Bol D’Or.
The Bol D’Or is also expected to have a different position in the yearly Endurance races calendar, most likely around mid-September 2014. The extreme 24-hour-long road race has a rich history, almost a century-long, being established back in 1922. With the initial races taking place in the Paris region, the race first moved to Saint Nom la Breteche, then to Saint Germain en Laye. The next locations included Le Mans, Castellet and in 2000, Magny-Cours.

After 14 years, the 24-hour Bol D’Or looks like going back at Castellet, and who knows, maybe it will travel to Le Mans and all the way back. Jokes aside, the Bol D’Or moved from the Magny-Cours circuit only because this track will host its own endurance race, apparently as of next year.

French sources say that the new round has also been admitted as a FIM-sanctioned event for the next year’s calendar and it’s going to be a 12-hour race. Endurance road-racing fans in northern France and Germany, the UK, Belgium or Netherlands will definitely not be happy with the 24-hour race moving south, some 50 km (30 miles) from Marseille, but at least they’ll have the excitement of the newly-announced round, even if with a halved duration. This year's Bol D'Or will take place April 26-27.
