BMW X5 Security Plus, Bullet Resistance Class 6 Vehicle

BMW's range of security vehicles is expanding by yet another vehicle, as the manufacturer now provides the X5 model with the Security Plus package, compliant with the requirements of bullet resistance class 6.

The German manufacturer takes pride in the fact that it is the first high volume manufacturer to provide a vehicle capable of withstanding a relentless assault with, for instance, the Al Qaeda favorite, AK-47.

The main feature of the Security Plus X5 is the armored passenger cabin, made of high-performance steel molded components and panels. The body of the X5 boasts sealed joints, to grant protection in critical areas, like in between doors and frames, as well as between side panels and pillars. Bullets or fragments are prevented from entering the cabin, while the security glass (featuring clubs, crowbars a polycarbonate coating) was developed exclusively for this bullet resistance class.

Along side with the protective nature of the Security Plus, the package also uses a wide range of technical features to make an all-out defensive machine. Hold up alarm, acoustic and visual alarm systems (in case the sound of an AK-47 wasn't enough), rear view camera (to see whether somebody still chases you) and an intercom system (to be used for verbal assaulting your assailant without exiting the car).

The fun side is that if someone chooses to go after you, he has no way on knowing whether your Bimmer is bulletproof. The X5 Security Plus does not distinguish itself in any way from a regular series production model, so you can stay relaxed and make fun of the poor guy trying to do you with a pistol (had he known, perhaps he would have gone for a more radical approach, such as an anti-tank rocket launcher).

Still, if the menacing tip of a missile warhead enters your rearview mirror, you can use the emergency running tires to speed to up to 80 km/hour or 50 mph (even if they are riddled with bullets) and travel for about 150 km (93 mph).
