It would seem the work BMW and Toyota have put into making a new sportscar will soon take shape and be unveiled as a concept. According to Bloomberg, the two companies pushed the project into the concept phase and everything is going according to plan.

The information comes straight from Munich and also says that up until now, the two giants have been testing the feasibility of the car, a development that started back in January 2013 and was just completed successfully.

However, that’s about all the info that comes in from officials at the moment. As for the rest, speculations are extremely variable. Some say that there will be more than one car developed by the two and this theory seems to be making more sense than anything else but it won’t be as expected.

We presume that both BMW and Toyota will be using the technology from this flagship car in all their other cars in the future, starting with a couple of new ones that will be ‘the pioneers’ sort of speak.

Toyota is the world’s largest automaker at the moment but fans of the brand have accused them of missing out of the sports segment, where they used to have incredible weapons such as the Supra. They could be using BMW’s Motorsport knowledge to bring back such a car and that seems like one of the most probable scenarios.

On the other hand, BMW needs hybrid technology to keep up with the demanding CO2 emission targets. They developed the I sub-brand but that mainly focused on lightweight construction and not next-level technology.

Toyota could provide the tech and know-how in this field as their resources outrank BMW’s own. Fuel-cell technology and lithium-air batteries are what the Germans are after.

Therefore, while we do hope to see an incredible hybrid sports car come out of this whole ordeal, most of the technology will be imbued in other models as well in the future.
