BMW has been supplying police cars to the Munich authorities for 50 years now, with the carmaker establishing a strong patrol car tradition in its home city. Now, the company has signed a new contract that will see its supply several hundred cars per year to the Bavarian police force.
The carmaker will deliver modified versions of the new 3-Series sedan, as well as its upcoming Touring version, the 5-Series, also in sedan and Touring incarnations, as well as the X3. The vehicle will be fitted with specific equipment, with BMW going as far as integrating the controls for the lights and sirens in the iDrive menu.
"I am glad that in the coming years, new BMW models will work for the police in Bavaria's roads. As a longtime partner of the Bavarian police, we are proud that our expertise has convinced authorities and we continue to make our contribution to security in Bavaria, "said Alexander Thorwirth, head of sales to public authorities, operational and security vehicles.
