You can take the BMW out of M cars, but you can't take the letter M out of BMW, that's what we always say. This is a good way to explain why the German automaker is currently pushing ahead with development of three new M cars: the F85 X5 M, F86 X6 M and F83 M4 Convertible. These are without a doubt successors for some of the most impure vehicles on the road right now, though at the same time they are sought after by wealthy individuals with an appetite for power presented in an opulent package.
We've seen all of these cars spied at least once before, but now we bring you fresh batches of photos, including shots of them all together in an "Arctic convoy" during winter testing.

People often say M cars are nothing like their regular brothers. The steering feel, the stiffness of the suspension and of course the way the power delivery is dealt with by the electronic nannies sets them apart. Ironically, even though the convertible has nothing to do with the two SUVs, they now have the same F8x series, specific to M cars. Another thing these cars now have in common is a double-slatted kidney grille design, the one introduced by the M5 facelift, the fact that they pack LED headlights and are lighter than the cars they replace.

As for the engines, the M4 will have the same 3-liter twin-turbo with 431 HP and 550 Nm of torque as the M3 and M4 Coupe. Meanwhile, the F85 X5 M and the F86 X6 M will still have 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8s, but they might get a slight increase in output.
