BMW Sales Record in February

Judging by the way in which the new year started, it would appear there will be no stopping the German auto makers from achieving, and even surpassing their sales targets for 2011. Now that the numbers are in for the second month of the year, BMW too can join Volkswagen and Daimler in celebrating great sales figures.

BMW sold last month 111,720 vehicles (from all brands, BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce), representing an increase of 21.7 percent compared to February 2010. The numbers represent a new record for the Bavarian auto maker in the month of February.

The growth of the brand was fueled by the appetite of the people buying cars in its three major markets, Germany, the US and China. The home country reported an increase of 20.8 percent to 18,883 vehicles, the United States grew by 10.8 percent to 19,919 vehicles and China rounded up the numbers (and will soon threaten to overtake Germany) by posting a quantum leap of 72 percent to 16,511 vehicles.

“Our young vehicle fleet is currently doing exceptionally well from the recovery of the car markets in many regions of the world. In particular, strong demand for the BMW X models, the BMW 5 Series and the MINI Countryman shows that our model range is right on target. We should also see further impetus from the new BMW 6 Series, which comes onto the market in the spring,” said Ian Robertson, BMW member of the board in charge of Sales and Marketing.

“We expect this dynamic growth to continue throughout the first half of 2011, and then slow down somewhat in the second half of the year, due to base-line effects.”
