It's an automotive student's biggest dream: get employed by a German car manufacturer. Apparently though, that dream kinda fades away as time passes and the material rewards appear not to rise to expectations.
This is what must have gone through the mind a BMW employee when he decided to devise a scheme which would allow him to steal seats and fittings. The idea was simple: with the help of an employee of one of BMW's customers, he was faking production and shipping orders of the aforementioned products.
Once they got the seats out of the factory, they sold them on the Internet. The business appeared to be very lucrative, while it lasted. The two men are accused of stealing EUR3 million worth of seats ($3.9 million) and have been arrested by the Munich police.
According to the Bloomberg, citing German investigators, the possibility of the network of thieves being bigger is currently being evaluated. The German police says that it is looking into a possible participation from 15 other people.
The investigation into this case began in October and is far from being finalized. Even more, a closer look into the crime group might reveal that the damages caused are higher then currently believed. So far, BMW is maintaining silence on the subject.
