Following last week's information that German carmaker BMW and its partner SGL are looking for a possible construction site of a future carbon fiber manufacturing facility, the Seattle Times reports that a decision regarding the location has been made.
Eyeing two spots in Moses Lake and an unnamed Canadian city, it would appear BMW went for the former. Yet unconfirmed, the location will probably be unveiled by Washington state Gov. Chris Gregoire at a news conference to be held on April 6 in Seattle.
The decision behind choosing Moses Lake comes as a result of the various advantages the city has to offer, the report says. First of all, the low cost of electricity available here, plenty of land, an airport and the nearby Interstate 90.
The products manufactured at the loctions will largely be used by BMW for the creation of the much anticipated Megacity vehicle and as time goes by, they will expand to most of the manufacturer's car portfolio. The Megacity vehicle, created by the infamous Project i branch will be built starting 2013 in BMW's facility in Leipzig.
The new company, resulted after BMW established a joint venture with SGL, will operate from two locations, one in the US and one in Europe. SGL will hold 51 percent of the group and BMW the remainder. The JV will create some 180 jobs in the US and Germany. The joint venture will create some 180 jobs in the US and Germany.
