BMW will be starting a new San Francisco-based car sharing service which will use a 70-strong fleet of ActiveEs. The service is called ‘DriveNow’ and if you live in San Francisco and you fancy a spin, you will need to pay a one-time membership fee of $39, as well as $12 for the first half-hour, and then 32 cents per mile.
However, the better alternative would be to ‘rent’ the car for an entire day, in which you will be able to travel a maximum of 288 km (180 miles). This latter option will set you back $90 per day, however, we say it’s definitely the better option if you want to get a feel for the car. If you are interested in the DriveNow service, more details are available here.

Other car sharing services that use EVs are already operational in many citires, both in the US, as well as in Europe. Their popularity seems to be increasing, however, and BMW seem to want the car sharing money for themselves, as they have not sold the cars to another company, but rather operatijng the service themselves.
