BMW Alpina B7 Biturbo Allrad to Debut at the 2010 NYIAS

German manufacturer BMW recently announced it is planning to showcase the Alpina B7 Biturbo Allrad at the upcoming New York Auto Show (NYIAS) next week. New to the Alpina model is an all-wheel drive system (xDrive), destined to offer more traction and active safety in any driving situation.

The Allrad will be available in short and long wheelbases and with three driving modes, namely Comfort / Normal, Sport, and Sport+. Regardless of the selected driving mode, the system reportedly recognizes lateral acceleration above 0.5 m/s2 as resolute and sport-oriented driving and increases the torque shifted to the rear wheels, without reducing stability.

“The all-wheel-drive system is linked to the B7 Bi-Turbo's many electronic control systems, meaning it can offer an unusually broad spectrum of dynamic driving experiences, just like our demanding customers expect,” a BMW statement reads.

“Unique: in combination with the electronic suspension, consisting of Variable Damper Control and Dynamic Drive (active roll stabilization), the driver can influence the dynamic torque distribution of the all-wheel-drive system using the Drive Dynamic Control buttons to select between the programs.”

The Alpina B7 Biturbo Allrad is powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 500 bhp (373kW / 507 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Performance details have not been released yet by BMW, but the non-all-wheel drive B7 Biturbo accelerates from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds, which is likely to match the Allrad version too.

Aside from the Allrad, the new BMW 5-Series, the revised 3-Series Coupe and Convertible and the facelifted X5 will also be making their North American debut in New York.
