Just as we told you yesterday, BMW was preparing the official debut of the 5 Series GT, a model that is expected to go on sale later this year. Today, the company rolled out a huge press release in which it reveals the official specifications of the car as well as equipment levels and performance figures of the Gran Turismo.
The 550i is powered by a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 engine - the same as the one installed on the new 7 Series and BMW X6 - that develops 400 horsepower and helps the car sprint from 0 to 60 in no less than 5.4 seconds. Equipped with the Sport Package, the GT tops at 150 mph (241 km/h) while with all-season tires, it goes as fast as 130 mph (209 km/h). BMW says the engine is capable of reducing CO2 emissions by 20 percent and enhance fuel efficiency by 2 to 4 percent. Furthermore, the engine perfectly meets U.S. ULEV II (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle) limits..
While we're not going to talk too much about the exterior styling - most of the features are easily noticeable in the photo gallery below the article - let's talk a bit about the interiors.
BMW mostly describes the interior as a very spacious cabin, with legroom on the sale of BMW's 7 Series and headroom almost similar to BMW X5's. There are several features offered either as standard or optional, such as the Luxury Rear Seating Package which consists of individual, multi-adjustable power seats, separated by a center console with cupholders and a storage compartment.
There are several safety features offered as standard, as it follows: Xenon Adaptive headlights with auto-leveling, cornering lights, automatic headlight control, halogen foglights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, adaptive brakelights, 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, run-flat tires, Tire Pressure Monitor, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors and dynamic control.
