BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition Details and Photos Released

German manufacturer BMW announced today the release of the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition, prior to its official unveiling at next months Frankfurt Auto Show. The main attributte of this special 320d is its fuel consumption rating: 4.1l/100 km (68.9 mpg).

The 320d EfficientDynamics is powered by a 2.0l four cylinder engine specially optimized for the 320d, with an all aluminum crankcase. Using turbocharging with variable intake geometry and common-rail direct fuel injection complete with piezo-injectors, the units is capable of developing 163 hp at 3,500 rpm and 360 Nm of torque from 3,000 rpm.

In case it's not all clear by now, this new EfficientDynamics model will become BMW's most fuel-efficient and lowest-emission vehicle in the current line-up. The additions brought to the EfficientDynamics technologies include a longer final drive ratio and lower chassis and suspensions.
Of course, the usual Brake Energy Regeneration system or the auto start stop system are also fitted on the 320d EfficientDynamics edition.

"In the fiercely contested midrange segment it is an unparalleled, highly attractive premium offer for the truly demanding and progressive customer focusing primarily on superior economy and the environment, without wishing to forego the sporting driving characteristics so typical of a genuine BMW," the manufacturer said in a release.

As for pricing, the German manufacturer announced it will wear the same price tag as the regular 320d, which will not be replaced by this special edition.

"The improvement of efficiency offered by this innovative technology does not even require the payment of a higher price for the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition," BMW added.
