When the new BMW M3 and M4 were launched last year, the aficionados were relieved to find out (after a lot of misleading rumors surfaced the internet) that the two will still be available with a manual gearbox, for pure driving enjoyment.
The new models will be available with a brand new 6-speed manual unit that offers shorter throws, rev-matching and more precise shifting than before, making the two the benchmark in their segments, once again.

Now, we just caught word that the new 2 Series will also borrow this technology and it won’t be restricted to the M235i model. Unfortunately, if you’re going for the xDrive variant you won’t be able to pick up a manual but if you’re looking for rear-wheel-drive fun, you’re set.

The info comes through a 2013 Product Planning Bulletin released for BMW Canada that was just leaked online. With the optional Limited-Slip-Differential, 50:50 weight distribution and 3-liter turbocharged 326 HP engine, the manual M235i is shaping up to be quite the performer on the road.
