Bertone-Designed Aston Martin Sells for Record Price

The unique DB4 GT-based Bertone Jet has become the most expensive Aston Martin ever auction, after fetching £3,249,500 (€3,793,336 / $4,905,445) at Bonhams' annual sale in Newport Pagnell, England.

Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro while he was working for Gruppo Bertone, the Bertone Jet debuted at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. The car was based on the Aston Martin DB4 GT, which was introduced in 1960 to rival Ferrari’s 250 GT race car. It was the last DB4 GT to be built.

Throughout its life, the Bertone Jet has won several trophies in prestigious automotive events like the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este or the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The car was auctioned for the first time in 25 years after its Swiss owner passed on.

The last Aston Martin to sell for over $4 million was a DB5 model that was driven by Sean Connery in the “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball” James Bond motion pictures. The 007 vehicle was auctioned for $4.1 million in 2010.
