The paint hasn't dried yet on the freshly introduced Audi Q5 and details regarding the premium sound system on the car already started to appear.
A small Danish company called Bang&Olufsen is responsible for the top of the range sound system available on the small SUV, the same one that produces the entertainment system for the Audi flagship, the A8. With the help of 14 loudspeakers, 10 amplifier channels and a total output of more than 500 watts, the B&O Sound System in the Q5 will make itself well heard in the auto industry. Because power is not everything, Danish engineers spend lots of hours listening and tuning the system in order to obtain a good sound quality and match the acoustic signature of the Audi model.
The quality is also obtained thanks to Digital Signal Processing, which turns 2-channel stereo signal into 7.1 surround sound. As an impressive feature, the system automatically optimizes the sound according to the noise level and to the number of passengers in the car. And all this with the help of a microphone integrated in the ceiling of the cockpit which determines noise levels. Also, for easier operation, the B&O System is completely integrated with the multimedia user interface (MMI) also optional as a high-end feature on the Q5.
As Audi has not yet announced any prices for the new car, it is only natural that the cost of the extras such as this audio system also remains unknown.
