Automotive aficionados will be pleased to find out that the move also marks the Australian debut of the latest incarnation of Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system.
Under the bonnet of the Autobahn-blitzer we find a rev-happy, naturally aspirated 4,163 cc V8 powerplant that uses direct injection to deliver 450 hp at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 430 Nm, which sits at your right foot between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm.
The engine manages to take the vehicle past the 62 mph mark in 4.6 seconds and keeps pushing it until it reaches an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Audi can take the game up to 174 mph (280 km/h) upon request.
We should also mention that the vehicle is fitted with a state-of-the-art crown-gear center differential that “can vary the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles in the blink of an eye.” Now that you’ve blinked, we’ll tell you that the front axle can get up to 70 percent of the torque, while the rear one is allowed to play with as much as 85 percent.
Just like the R8 5.2 FSI Spyder, the RS5 Coupe will reach its first customers in October. The vehicle has a Manufacturer’s List Price of AU$175,300 (the clients will also have to pay the dealer delivery and government statutory charges).
