Australia Gets the All-new Hyundai Elantra

The all-new 2911 Elantra, a compact sedan which completes Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s line-up in the small segment, is now starting to arrive in showrooms down under. The sedan demonstrates Hyundai’s ‘New Thinking. New Possibilities’ philosophy, delivering advanced safety technology, an efficient powertrain and contemporary styling.

On the market, the all-new Elantra will be available with a 1.8 Litre MPI powertrain in three trim levels - Active, Elite and Premium mated with a 6-speed manual (Active only) or 6-speed automatic transmission. The five-cylinder unit features convectional port fuel injection and develops 148-horsepower and 131 lb-ft (177 Nm) of torque.

Standard equipment includes stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and a trunk-full of other electronic nannies. While optional extras are as following: touchscreen nav system, iPod integration, heated rear seats and a 172-watt or 360-watt sound system, making the Elantra one of the best equipped models in its price range.

“Designed at Hyundai's North American Design Centre in Irvine California, Elantra exemplifies Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design philosophy. Creating the illusion of constant motion, flowing lines with a strong undercut feature are contrasted with muscular wheel arches and a seamless roofline. The result is a sleek aerodynamic on-road stance. Hyundai’s signature hexagonal front grille and swept-back headlights give Elantra a compact athletic face,” Hyundai Australia states in the official press release.

Inside the all-new Elantra, Hyundai’s expertise in interior design and packaging are evident. The new interior concept is called ‘Wind Craft’, a dynamic and futuristic direction which informs a striking and stylish cockpit, with a bold metal effect garnish originating at the crash pad and flowing to the console in a sculptured airstream-like contour. The combination piano-black and chrome finishes add a quality, high-tech feel to the interior of Elantra.
