Aussie Hyundai Santa Fe R Series Gets Tougher

The 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe 7-seat SUV has just been announced as being available in the Australian market, featuring a new generation 'R' series Diesel engine that outputs 145 kW (195 hp) and 436 Nm of torque. The new engine is mated to a choice of new 6-speed transmissions, reducing both the fuel consumption as well as carbon dioxide emissions.

The new car made its Australian debut in the Global Green Challenge, a six day drive over 3,000 km between Darwin and Adelaide, during which it proved easily capable of undercutting its official fuel consumption figure of 6.7 L/100km (7.5 l/100km for automatic).

“The latest Santa Fe builds on its renowned practicality and economy,”
said Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s Sales and Marketing Director, Kevin McCann, in a statement for the press.

“Packed with features that encompass the gamut of driving desirables – performance, efficiency, comfort and five star safety – it undoubtedly sets new standards for value as an all-purpose 7-seat family SUV,” McCann added.

The new Santa Fe ‘R’ series’ new features include:
  • The all-new R-2.2 diesel engine, offering improved power and torque as well as reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
  • A choice of 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions, once again designed to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Enhanced safety features, including improved crash and rollover protection, resulting in a five star ANCAP rating.
  • New styling cues.
  • Upgraded interior design and comfort.
  • Suspension which has been dynamically optimised for Australian road conditions.
