Now don't go thinking the stand, or the Cobo Center for that matter, went up in a blaze of glory, 'cause it didn't. But the small electrical fire which broke out in the Audi display at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) was enough to call for an evacuation of personnel and visitors. According to NAIAS, no injuries were reported.
"A small electrical fire broke out in the Audi display at NAIAS. No injuries were reported as the floor was efficiently evacuated of patrons and workers. We anticipate the show floor reopening within the next few hours," NAIAS says in a release explaining the incident.
"Today's visitors received a hand stamp that can be used for re-entree when the show floor re-opens in a few hours, or they may visit the ticket stand to receive a pass valid for a return visit on any day."
"We are assessing root cause but no significant damage was felt to the building or exhibit. Most importantly the efficient actions by onsite staff allowed for a quick end to the situation and resulted in no injuries."
Now, we being paranoid and all, we can't but wonder if the new e-tron had anything to do with the fire. We mean, think about it... What if a curious visitor decided to plug the 204 hp, 2,650 Nm electrical monster into a wall socket or something?
Joke aside, things seem to be in order at the Audi NAIAS stand, so feel free to go back in and enjoy the last days of the show.
