Paul Wallace made internet headlines around the world with his Audi R8. There's nothing special about the car… yet, but the fact that he bought it with money he earned from filming supercar around London all day makes it special. Doing what you like and reaping the benefits is extremely cool in our book.
Wallace went from driving a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 to a 4.2-liter quattro machine worth about £50,000 in a couple of years. It's a dream come true, no doubt, but what is it like to live with that dream every day?
As it turns out, not that bad. Audi did an OK job making the car usable every day. Everything is easy to use and even the manual gearbox is not a problem unlike in a supercar of old.
Paul says the Audi R8 doesn't feel aggressive and fast and the proportions are good for driving about town. After all, what the point of owning an Aventador if you clench up every time it needs to be parked.
The engine defines this car. Audi wanted the base R8 to be a rival for the Porsche 911 Carrera S/4S. They chose a 4.2-liter V8 engine with about 420 horsepower. Remember, this is a slightly heavier car than the Porsche, so it needs more power, but having a bigger engine also means you can drive it in a lazy manner.
It's clear that the supercar spotter got everything he wanted. Making about £1,000 a month just from filming car videos he's taken his life to the next level and we're pretty sure Paul will inspire others to follow his example and carve their own path on the web.
